The aim of this book is to generate a strong operational ethic in the work of engineers from all disciplines. It provides numerous examples of engineers who sought to meet the highest ethical standards, risking both professional and personal retaliations. In short, it presents the fields of engineering ethics in the context of actual conflict situations on the job, and points to an urgent need for a strong ethical framework for the profession. This book is about engineering students and practitioners truly understanding, valuing, and championing their wider critical role. Ralph Nader, the consumer advocate and champion of engineers, wrote the preface.

    • Presents various viewpoints which hail from a wide variety of disciplines in the engineering, science, and technology communities.

Dr. Nicholas Sakellariou is a professor of engineering ethics at California Polytechnic State University. He received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. He has published numerous journal articles in the area of ethics.

"A wonderful and comprehensive collection of well written articles to inform the reader about sustainable engineering and also to educate about practice and promise of engineering. A unique characteristic and strength of this book is the emphasis on critiques of engineering, rather than on ethics of engineering.

The book will be an invaluable learning resource to all engineering students in order to become critically aware of how their technical work will not only preserve but also improve the quality of life of society."

~Dr. Ignatios Vakalis, California Polytechnic State University

"[Ethics, Politics, and Whistleblowing in Engineering] will be a valuable resource both for engineers looking to expand their ethical horizon as well as scholars of engineering ethics, engineering studies, and engineering and policy."

~Dr. Joseph Herkert, North Carolina State University
