    The papers published in this proceedings volume are written by a selection of authors, resulting from a call for papers for the 1st International Conference on Law and Governance in a Global Context (ICLAVE) originating from Indonesia and other countries. This proceedings volume shall be a very valuable contribution to understand contemporary law issues in Indonesia which are not always taught in law schools. These proceedings will not only serve as a useful reference for law students and academicians, but also help law practitioners to understand law issues that may be encountered in Indonesia. It covers selected items such as Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Business Law, Intellectual Property Law, Criminal Law, Human Rights Law, Adat Law, Shariah Law, Judiciary Law and International Law, which are all important for undergraduate and post-graduate law students, as well as academicians and law practitioners in the law community.

    Biography

    Heru Susetyo, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta – Indonesia, Executive Board of Victim Support Asia, Secretary General of the Association of Lecturers of Victimology in Indonesia (APVI) and Founder of the Indonesian Victimology Society in 2011, Member of Jakarta Province Research Council (2018 – 2022) as well as member of the former executive committee of the World Society of Victimology (2009 – 2015). He is currently teaching human rights, victimology, law and social welfare, children protection law, Law and Society and Legal Research Method.
    Heru Susetyo graduated from Universitas Indonesia in 1996 (bachelor of law) and 2003 (master of social work) and also obtained a master degree in International Human Rights Law (LL.M) from Northwestern Law School, Chicago (2003) and a PhD in Human Rights and Peace Studies from Mahidol University, Thailand (in 2014). Currently, he is conducting research on Victimization to the Family of Terrorism Suspects as an external PhD researcher at INTERVICT (International Victimology Institute), Tilburg University, The Netherlands. Heru Susetyo has also written numerous articles in various newspapers, magazines and online media and also published papers in several journals and books related to human rights, victimology, terrorism, social work and international criminal law.
    He has also been responsible for handling research and publication affairs at the Law Faculty of the University as Manager of Research and Publication (since 2018), Editor in Chief of Jurnal Hukum dan Pembangunan FHUI (since 2018) and Editor in Chief of Journal of Islam and Islamic Law Studies (since 2007).     Dr. Patricia Rinwigati Waagstein, S.H., MIL is a lecture at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia. She has also been a practicing attorney and consultant who has worked in Timor Lest, USA, Sweden, and ASEAN countries for over fifteen years. She has extensive experience and expertise in human rights, business and human rights issues, criminal justice, and international law. She holds a Bachelor degree in law from the University of Indonesia (1996), a Master’s Degree in Public International Law from Lund University, Sweden (1999) and a Doctoral Degree in law from Uppsala University, Sweden (2009). In addition to lecturer, she is currently the director of the Djokosoetono Research Center at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia. Areas of research interest: human rights, humanitarian law, criminal law, and international law.

    Dr. Akhmad Budi Cahyono is a senior lecturer of civil law at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Universitas Indonesia in 1998, a Master’s degree from Universitas Indonesia in 2002, and a doctoral degree from Universitas Indonesia in 2015. He also conducted Research in completion of his dissertation at Leiden University, the Netherlands. His qualifications are civil law in general, contract law, and tort law. He has been a lecturer since 1998 and published three private law books. The first one was published in 2005 with the title "Hukum Perdata: Suatu Pengantar" (Introduction of Private Law), the second one published in 2008 with the title "Mengenal Hukum Perdata" (Understanding of Private Law) and the last book published in 2014 with the title "Modul Hukum Perdata" (Private Law Module).
