Dr Ruthy Gertwagen is Senior Lecturer, Byzantine and Modern Hellenic Studies, Haifa University, Israel. Elizabeth Jeffreys is Bywater and Sotheby Professor of Byzantine and Modern Greek Language and Literature Emerita, University of Oxford, UK.
