Iran Encountering Globalization Problems and Prospects
With new material and up-to-date information, this book examines the current state of Iran, exploring a wide range of areas including the economy, finance, politics, the media, and the position of women and migration.
Iran Encountering Globalization discusses the uneasy balance between the theocratic conservatism, modernization and globalization. This is a key tension in Iran - one which has arisen following the revolution of 1979, since the regime has worked to Islamicize the country, while at the same time international globalization forces have been pulling in a different direction. Concluding that forces for change in Iran are currently building up, this is an extremely topical book that makes an important contribution to current debates surrounding democracy in Iran.
