I have practised pharmacy in all sectors and held senior management executive positions for over 3o years. I have worked in Sri Lanka, Japan, Kuwait, New Zealand and England. Now I have retired but offer consultancy services.

Biography

About the author
I gained my pharmacy degree (with honours) from the University of Manchester in the UK. I have worked in the UK, New Zealand, Japan and Kuwait in all sectors of pharmacy practice and in beverage industry. For over 30 years, I held senior management positions. Before immigrating to New Zealand, I was the head of the National Drugs Quality Control laboratory in Sri Lanka. While in Kuwait, I served as a specialist in drug analysis and quality control under its Ministry of Health. In Japan, I worked with experts in pharmaceutical science. Overseas companies I worked for include Hoechst Pharmaceuticals (New Zealand), Pernod-Ricard (New Zealand), Eli Lilly Research (UK), Ballinger’s Pharmacy (New Zealand), Boots Chemists (UK) and Lloyds Pharmacy (UK).
In addition to my pharmacy qualifications, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, post-graduate diploma in computer science, MBA and Ph.D. in management science. I am a chartered chemist (CChem), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (MRPharmS) and a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand MPS).
I was the co-author of the chapter on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point in the book, Hand Book of Food Preservation (830 pages), published by Marcel Dekker, USA (1st edition) (1999). In the second edition of Hand Book of Food Preservation, I was the author of the revised chapter on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and the chapter on Good Manufacturing Practices (published by CRC Press, USA in July 2007, 1068 pages). My book, “Handbook of Good Pharmacy Practice” (268 pages) was published in 2011 in Sri Lanka. My book, “Essential Management Skills for Pharmacy and Business Managers” published by CRC Press, USA was released in 2013.
I have gained competency as a lead auditor and was a registered auditor in quality management and occupational safety and hygiene. I was a member of the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) and a member of its Technical Advisory Committee. JAS-ANZ is the sole body responsible for accrediting certifying bodies in Australia and New Zealand.
In 2004, New Zealand government conferred the Queen’s Service Medal for services to the community.
