Having spent more than a decade in teaching and being research active in computing, computer science and informatics, as well as getting involved in many evaluations, funding schemes, entrepreneurial and business led initiatives, nevertheless, writing a book, I came to realise and be convinced that Algorithms, the spirit of computing, has always been something very central to all these activities, something I would like to dedicate the rest of my life.

Biography
I enjoyed higher education at world leading, research intensive Universities (e.g., University ofKarlsruhe, ETH Zurich) and also having gained a considerable experience in teaching as Senior Lecturer at a teaching orientated, research informed higher education institution in the UK.
In particular, exposure and contribution to Web Science research group activities via the lenses of natural
language processing, text mining, information extraction and retrieval, could tie up and contribute to the interests and activities.
Nevertheless, the strong interest in collective intelligence and algorithms (see also editorship of the special issue on Collective Intelligence, Journal of Information Sciences, Elsevier) is a further contributor to the research interests and activities.

Research into natural language based programming and semantic software engineering: This includes
work on transforming the programming languages community in that programming will be possible by
writing statements in natural language instead of hardly to understand programming language jargon.
Research into conceptual search and information retrieval: This includes work on transforming the current
search paradigm and algorithms, from key words based search to concepts based search, e.g., conceptual
structures and algorithms, in order to provide concrete answers to search instead of links to documents.
This has the potential to impact knowledge based economies and workers, e.g., in biosciences.
Research into text mining and topics extraction: This includes work on improving algorithms for topics
extraction and classification/clustering of news as provided by social media and agencies, e.g., BBC News.
Research into sign languages: This includes work on improving speech recognition algorithms for mapping
spoken language into sign language in the context of enabling a sign language based translator on
various forms of media communication, e.g., TV watching.
Research into collective intelligence and algorithms: This includes work on improving algorithms for the
study of mass behavioural models, e.g., cells and the immune system, societies of microbes, crowd
behavioural models.
