Biography

I am an architect, teacher, and researcher. I have practiced with a variety of firms in N.Y.C., London, Portland, and Vermont, working on a wide range of building projects and competitions. I taught at The University of East London, The Architectural Association, and Norwich University and currently am the Stage 5 leader at the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art. My research is focused on collaborative design, the exploration of spatial definition, digital processes in the generation of space and urban analysis. This research has been presented in Portugal, Antwerp and Aberdeen, New York, Montreal and London.
Growing up near Detroit and discovering an interest in the built environment through construction, I went on to pursue an education in architecture.  After graduating from the Architectural Association with a Diploma in Architecture in 1991, I moved to N.Y.C. and worked on various personal projects along with a variety of freelance jobs; everything from industrial design, model making and drafting, to construction and fabrication. In 1994 I moved back to London to teach and to complete my RIBA Part 3 qualifications. Having started a family, I returned to the United States, to practice in Portland, Oregon and later in Vermont. Along with working in large commercial firm, I taught at Norwich University and began the collaborative art practice, Locus with Michael Wenrich. Locus explores fundamental architectural principles through site specific experiential installations. Locus projects have been constructed in Vermont, Glasgow and Portland Oregon. I returned to the United Kingdom to teach and research at the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art. Over the last 10 years of living in Glasgow I have been involved in a range of research. Some of which was a carryover from work I did while I was practicing in the U.S., while other areas have been the result of working with students, or my experiences as an architect.
