Richard O'Donovan
Carpenter for ten years, then musical instrument maker for another ten years, Richard O'Donovan started studying mathematics at Fields medal limit age. Teaching introductory analysis - or calculus - lead to studying nonstandard approaches to see if there were more intuitive, yet mathematically correct ways of presenting the subject. This work was developped with Karel Hrbacek. Olivier Lessmann and Yves PĂ©raire (my PhD advisor).

Biography
When "incorrect" methods of the first analysts lead to correct answers, I wonder why and end up studying nonstandard analysis and philosophy of mathematics. As a result, different methods are developed which provide other insights on well known theorems and an approach which is more intuitive for the introductory level. The challenge is then to introduce 21rst century mathematics in high schoolEducation
