I graduated in theoretical physics from Dnipropetrovsk State University (DSU, Ukraine) in 1973 and received PhD in chemistry from the Institute of Physical-Organic Chemistry (IPOC), Kiev, in 1983 and DSc in physics, chemistry, and technology of surface from the Institute of Surface Chemistry (ISC) in 1995.

Biography

I currently serve as a professor of physics and chemistry of surface at ISC, Head of Department, where I have worked since 1985. I was a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Brighton (United Kingdom), 2010–2011. I wrote three books, edited one book,published about 420 papers, and made about 200 presentations at conferences. I am a member of editorial boards of four journals and a periodic book, as well as the Society of Chemistry of Ukraine (from 1976) and an e-member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (United Kingdom) and American Nano Society (United States). My research interests include quantum and molecular mechanics and dynamics, development of computational algorithms in molecular physics and surface chemistry, modeling of interfacial phenomena, and synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials. My main scientific achievements include development and applications of (i) self-consistent regularization procedures; (ii) numerical algorithms for calculations of dynamics of local electronic states of atoms in molecules and clusters; (iii) algorithms to study the reaction mechanisms with consideration of liquid media effects; (iv) algorithms for calculations of changes in Gibbs free energy for adsorption, diffusion, and breakthrough of molecules; (v) algorithm and software of kinetics of competitive interactions of macromolecules with nanoparticles or solids and own mobility of microorganisms on the basis of dynamic light scattering data; (vi) thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) relaxometry (porometry), integral equations for NMR cryoporometry, and TG and DSC thermoporometry; and (vii) integral equations and regularization procedures to determine the distribution functions of activation energy for dipolar and dc relaxation (TSDC), dielectric relaxation (DRS), and local mobility (NMR); synthesis and characterization of oxide and carbon nanomaterials, polymer-nanooxide, and mineral–carbon composites using the aforementioned approaches.
