Elaine Ann Moore

Honorary Associate (formerly Reader in Theoretical Chemistry)
The Open University UK

Elaine Ann Moore studied Chemistry as an undergraduate at Oxford University and then stayed on to complete a D.Phil in Theoretical Chemistry with Peter Atkins. After a two-year post-doctoral position at Southampton, she joined The Open University in 1975 as Course Assistant, becoming a Lecturer in Chemistry in 1977, Senior Lecturer in 1998, and Reader from 2004 to 2017. Currently she holds an honorary position there. Her research interests are in theoretical and computational chemistry.

Biography

She has produced OU teaching texts in Chemistry for Courses at levels 1, 2, and 3 and written texts in Astronomy at level 2 and Physics at level 3. She was co-author on several such texts which were co-published by the Royal Society of Chemistry -  Molecular Modelling and Bonding (2002) , Metal-Ligand Bonding (2004) , Metals and Life (2010) and Concepts in Transition Metal Chemistry (2010) and contributed to An Introduction to the Solar System (2004) co-published by Cambridge University Press. She has designed multimedia material at levels 1, 2 and 3 and was production chair of a course at level 2 delivered entirely online.

Recently she has taught at postgraduate level in Africa. In 2011, she delivered a short course on computational chemistry as part of the M.Sc. programme at Addis Ababa University.
She has also taught at the Khartoum Workshop on Advanced Materials Science run by ITCP and the Physics Department of the University of Khartoum.

Her research interests are in theoretical and computational chemistry applied to solid state systems, NMR spectroscopy and biological systems. She is author or co-author on over 50 papers in scientific journals.

She is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK.
