Vincent Toal
I work on holography and its applications in imaging, sensing and device fabrication. Now I'm concerned with commercializing the work of our research centre. I taught Physics (mainly optics) for many years.
Biography
I worked in the Advance Projects Group, Hawker Siddeley Dynamics UK from 1969 to 1971 on applications of infrared in imaging, sensing and earth resource monitoring. After that I did doctoral research at the University of Surrey on optical distortion due to Rayleigh turbulence in cryogenic liquids and its implications for the design of particle bubble chambers and free space optical communications. I was Lecturer in Physics at Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) 1974-1995, specializing in optics. Briefly Assistant Head of Physics in 1995 and Head of Physics from 1995 to 2009. Research mainly in holography, holographic recording materials and electronic speckle pattern interferometry. Director, Centre for Industrial and Engineering Optics (IEO),1998-. Now mainly concerned with commercialization of IEO's research.Education

When not working, I play piano and read a lot. I enjoy good detective stories and thrillers but they are increasingly hard to find. I enjoy walking and birding as well.
