Eric C. Brevik is a Professor of Geology and Soils and Chair of the Dept. of Natural Sciences at Dickinson State University. His research program focuses on soil genesis and survey, human impacts on the soil, soils and human health, and soil science history. He serves as an associate editor for Soil Horizons and is active in the Soil Science Society of America and the European Geosciences Union.

Biography

Eric C. Brevik is a Professor of Geology and Soils and Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences at Dickinson State Univ. Prior to his time at Dickinson State he was on the Environmental Geoscience faculty at Valdosta State Univ. from 2001-2007. He received B.S. and M.A. degrees in Geology from the Univ. of North Dakota in 1992 and 1994, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Soil Science from Iowa State Univ. in 2001.

Dr. Brevik’s research program focuses mainly on soil morphology and genesis. He conducts research in pedogenesis, soil survey, the use of electromagnetic induction in soils applications, and carbon sequestration. He has also conducted research in soil science history, soils and human health, and soils education. He has authored or co-authored 64+ journal articles and book chapters, 85+ abstracts, 17 educational videos, 2 laboratory manuals, and edited 1 book. He serves as an associate editor for Soil Horizons and is as member of the Soil Science Society of America, the European Geosciences Union, the International Union of Soil Science North Dakota Academy of Science, North Dakota Geological Society, and the Professional Soil Classifiers Association of North Dakota.
