Ian Aitchison
After teaching at Oxford for 37 years, I'm enjoying retirement in sunny California, near to SLAC. I welcome email enquiries from readers of the book, particularly from those studying on their own; readers' queries have often led to significant corrections and improvements.
Biography
Dr. Aitchison was educated at the University of Cambridge, UK, where he obtained a B.A. degree in Mathematics and a Ph.D. degree in Theoretical Physics. He spent two years as a graduate student at the University of Birmingham (UK), under Prof. Sir Rudolf Peierls. He held research positions at Brookhaven National Laboratory (USA), CEA Saclay (France) and Cambridge (UK), before being appointed to the physics faculty at Oxford. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Rochester and the University of Washington, and a Scientific Associate at CERN, Geneva. He has published over 90 scientific papers, mainly in the fields of hadronic physics and quantum field theory. At Oxford, as well as teaching for the physics course, he was closely involved for many years with the physics and philosophy course. In addition to co-authoring `Gauge Theories in Particle Physics', Dr. Aitchison is the author of `Relativistic Quantum Mechanics' (Macmillan), `An Informal Introduction to Gauge Field Theories' (CUP), and `Supersymmetry in Particle Physics' (CUP), and joint editor of two other books.
