Dr. Yuehwern Yih is a Professor of the School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University and the Faculty Scholar of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering. Dr. Yih received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. Her expertise resides in system and process design, monitor, and control in healthcare delivery systems.

Biography

Dr. Yuehwern Yih is a Professor of the School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University and the Director of Smart Systems and Operations Laboratory. She is the Faculty Scholar of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering. Dr. Yih received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. Her expertise resides in system and process design, monitor, and control to improve its quality and efficiency. Her research work has been focused on dynamic process control and decision making for operations in complex systems (or systems in systems), such as healthcare delivery systems, manufacturing systems, supply chains, and advanced life support system for mission to Mars.
Dr. Yih published over 100 journal papers, conference proceedings, and book chapters on system and operation control and her contributions in this area have been recognized by a National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award (NYI), a Dell K. Allen Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award, GE Faculty Fellow, NEC Faculty Fellow, Institute for Industrial Engineers (IIE) Fellow, and funding support from federal agencies and industries. Dr. Yih is also an accomplished teacher and has been consistently assessed by students as demonstrating excellence in teaching, earning several undergraduate teaching awards.  Dr. Yih serves as the Associate Editor of IIE Transactions on Healthcare Systems Engineering, and serves on the Editorial Boards of International Journal of Enterprise Network Management and European Journal of Industrial Engineering.  Her Handbook of Healthcare Delivery Systems is the first handbook provides the system engineering perspectives of healthcare delivery systems.  Dr. Yih is one of the experts contributed to “Order from Chaos – Accelerating Care Integration,” a report of the Lucian Leape Institute Roundtable, 2012.
Dr. Yih is listed in Marquis Who's Who, Who's Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who Among Asian American, and America’s Registry of Outstanding Professionals. She is a member of Institute for Industrial Engineers, Institute for Operations Research and Management Science, Society of Automobile Engineers, and Omega Rho Honor Society.
