Colin H. Walker worked at Monk`s Wood Experimental Station { NERC ] 1962-1967 as a Scientific Officer, later Senior Scientific Officer, in the `Toxic Chemicals and Wildlife Section` headed by Dr Norman Moore, he studied the side effects of organochlorine insecticides on birds and insects, and the fate of residues of these compounds in soils. Some of this work yielded evidence that led to the placing of restrictions in the use of cyclodiene insecticides in the UK.

Biography

Colin H. Walker worked at Monk`s Wood Experimental Station { NERC ] 1962-1967 as a Scientific Officer, later Senior Scientific Officer, in  the `Toxic Chemicals and Wildlife Section` headed by Dr Norman Moore, he studied the side effects of organochlorine insecticides on birds and insects, and the fate of residues of these compounds in soils. Some of this work yielded evidence that led to the placing of restrictions in the use of cyclodiene insecticides in the UK.
  In 1967 he took the post of Lecturer [ subsequently Reader and Professor ] in the Department of Biochemistry and Physiology, Reading University. He retired in 1996 and now has the title Professor Emeritus at Reading University.
   Colin H. Walker now lives in Colyton Devon and is an Honorary Associate of The School of Biosciences, Exeter University where he is involved in teaching Ecotoxicology to final year students in Biosciences.
    Whilst at Reading he had Research and/ or Teaching Associations with the IAEA in Wien [ Austria ]. Under the Erasmus Scheme he had Associations with the Universities of Siena [ Italy ], Wageningen [ Netherlands ], Odense [ Denmark  ] and Metz [ France ]. Supported by the Deutsche Akademischer Austauschdienst, he had working visits to the Toxicology Institute, University of Mainz, Germany. He also had links with Environment Canada, making visits to their laboratories in Ottawa.
  Although retired he still is writing some books and articles about Ecotoxicology.
   Over many years he was a member of the British Toxicology Society and served as Chairman of their Scientific sub Committee.

Personal Interests

    Interests include natural history, walking, gardening, music, pubs, wine and travel.
