Biography
Professor Hankey's main research interests include epidemiological studies and clinical trials of treatment strategies for acute stroke and stroke prevention such as the Perth Community Stroke Study [PCSS], Australian Co-operative Research on Subarachnoid Haemorrhage [ACROSS] study, and Health in Men Study [HIMS], for which he is a co-principal investigator; the international, multicentre CHARISMA, AMADEUS, BOREALIS and ROCKET-AF trials, for which he was an executive steering committee member; the international VITAmins To Prevent Stroke [VITATOPS] trial, for which he was the principal investigator; and the AFFINITY trial of fluoxetine for stroke recovery, for which he is co-principal investigator.Professor Hankey has contributed 604 articles to peer-reviewed medical journals (Editorials 52, Review articles 85, Original Articles 365, Case reports 32, Letters to the Editor 32, and published commentaries 38). His work has been cited 31,646 times; his H-index is 76 (76 publications with > 76 citations) and i10-index is 279 (279 publications with > 10 citations). He is also the author or co-author of 10 books (the most recent Hankey’s Clinical Neurology, 2nd edition, 2014), 20 book chapters and 12 Guidelines on aspects of stroke and clinical neurology.
