Dr. P. Mariappan, Coordinator, Department of Actuarial Science, Bishop Heber College, Trichy -620 017 is a distinguished academician having more than twenty-five years of rich teaching experience and working with Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirappalli-17 since 9th March 1990. He has a Ph.D. in Management Science with specialization in ‘Mathematical Models for Financial Decision Making’ from Bharathidasan University, Tamilnadu, India. Also, he has received a PH. D. in Applied Mathematics with specialization in ‘Manpower Flow Models’ from the University of Bharathidasan in Tamil Nadu, India and an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics with specialization in Decision Sciences from Bishop Heber College, India. He pursued his Management Studies from National Institute of Technology, Thiruchirappalli, and obtained a degree of Master of Philosophy in Management Studies from Madurai Kamaraj University, India. Dr. Mariappan has several years [more than twenty-five years] of rich teaching experience in the field of Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Business Administration in India and the United Arab Emirates [ Three years].
Dr. Mariappan’s teaching and research interests include Business Mathematics, Business Statistics, Decision Sciences, Operations Management, Management Information System, Quantitative Methods in Operations Management, Numerical Methods, Optimization Techniques, Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, and Computer Programming.  Apart from teaching, he uses an innovative method of teaching through flow-charting techniques which students admire very well. Also, he guides students and helps them to improve their qualities in different possible ways. He identifies the week, students and gives extra remedial course and see to that their standards improved.
Dr. Mariappan received the best teacher award for the year 2004 given by The Association of Centre for Indian Intellectuals [CII], India. On OCT 2012 he obtained the prestigious award of “Shiksha Rattan Puraskar” given by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi. On 28th June 2015, he received the prestigious award of “Bharath Excellence Award” given by the Friendship Forum, New Delhi. On 15th SEP 2015, he received the prestigious award of “Best Personalities of India” given by the Friendship Forum, New Delhi in OCT 2015. On NOV 1, 2015 received the “GRABS – Life Time Achievement Award” at Chennai. On DEC 2015 received the “Abdul Kalam Life Time Achievement National Award” at GOA given by International Institute for Social and Economic Reforms, Bangalore. On 17th SEP received the Distinguished Teacher Award: Mathematics awarded by Management Teachers Consortium, Global Trust in Bangalore.  Recently he received the 3E Scholar Best Teacher Award given by 3E Innovative Foundation, Delhi on 5th SEP 2017.  Recently Mariappan received “Adarsh Vidya Saraswathi Rashtriya Puraskar” Award and  “ Best Teacher Award in the country” given by Global Management Council, Ahmadabad, 2nd OCT 2017.                 Dr. Mariappan has published a hundred articles in leading academic international journals such as International Journal of Management and System, SEARCH and Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics. He also has the credit of authoring Thirty-Five textbooks. In January 2012, he conducted a Heber International Conference on Applications of Mathematics and Statistics in the capacity of the Convener and released an Abstract and the Proceedings of the Conference [both Hard and Soft copy]. In the same year during April he conducted one International Workshop on Multilevel Decision Making Criteria.

In NOV 2016, he conducted a Heber International Conference on Applied Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Management and Computer Science [HICAAMMC-2016] in the capacity of the Convener and released an Abstract and the Proceedings of the Conference [both Hard and Soft copy]. In 2017 during FEB he conducted one National Workshop on R-STAT 2017. Recently he conducted a one-day actuarial summit called ACTSUM 2017 in OCT 2017 in the capacity of convener. Besides this, he has also presented many research articles at international conferences that include two papers in The Third Asian Mathematical Conference held at Dhilliman University, Philippines, one paper at the International Conference on Business And Information held at Singapore, one paper in the Global Conference on Finance at Costa Rica, one paper in the Eighth International Conference on Operations, Quantitative Management, held at Thailand, one paper in the International Conference on Dynamical systems held at Atlanta, USA, one paper in the International Conference conducted at Maryland Eastern Shore, USA, two of the papers in the International Conference conducted in Dubai, one more paper in the International Conference of AESS, Malaysia, one paper in the International Conference on Accounting and Finance held at SRILANKA, two papers in the International Conference held at Kashmir University and one paper in the International Conference held at IIM, Bangalore. He served as Jury in an International Panel for the IFI International Panel and Conference held at the Groupe ESC Rouen, France. Currently he is guiding research scholars for their doctoral degree in the field of Management Science and Mathematics. He reviews articles for many leading national, international journals and e-journals.
