Dr. Efstratios Kalogirou has graduated in Department of Chemical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and has a Ph.D. at the National Technical University of Athens, School of Chemical Engineering . He is the co-founder and first Vice Chair of Global WTERT Council, headquartered in the Earth Engineering Center of Columbia University (www.wtert.org). He is a permanent member of the ISWA Working Group on Energy Recovery (ISWA-WGER, www.iswa.org).

Biography

Dr. Efstratios Kalogirou is the co-founder and first Chair of Waste to Energy Research & Technology Council/WTERT Greece (Synergia, www.wtert.gr) and also the first Vice-Chair of Global WTERT Council, headquartered in the Earth Engineering Center of Columbia University (www.wtert.org). He is a permanent member of the ISWA Working Group on Energy Recovery (ISWA-WGER, www.iswa.org). He has graduated in Department of Chemical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and has a Ph.D. at the National Technical University of Athens, School of Chemical Engineering. He is an International Expert on Waste Management, specialized in state of the art Waste to Energy/WTE novel technologies. His major scientific fields are energy from waste, potable water resources and ozone sterilization technologies. He is involved in many environmental projects worldwide (especially in WTE feasibility studies, preliminary studies, etc.). He is author in many scientific and technical papers, especially in WTE and coordinates worldwide intensive courses/ seminars on advancing state of the art sustainable waste management and waste to energy as a renewable energy source contributing to green development and carbon credits, in close cooperation with policy/decision makers, local governmental authorities and local industry & universities. He is experienced in advancing sustainable waste management courses and projects in developing and transitional nations worldwide. He has integrated technical site visits of many worldwide WTE Plants (in all continents around the globe) within the last 15 years with simulteaneously experience and expertise in conducting specific WTE pre-feasibility and preliminary technicoeconomical studies and relevant business plans worldwide. Finally, he is peer reviewer in worldwide high level scientific journals and relevant research programs.

He is also author of a Greek book with title: ''Drinking Water and Human Health (trace elements and trace organics)'', published at 1994 (second edition at 1999) by Papasotiriou Books Corporation. This book is part of the university course: ''Quality Characteristics and Water Treatment'', which is teached since 1995 as an Environmental Course (six months duration), at the Department of Chemical Engineering, in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece .
Regarding his work experience he has two years experience in Installation and Commissioning of Waste Water Treatment Plant of Argos, Naflpio, N Kios (Greece), two years experience in Business Center for Attica Air Pollution (mathematical modeling for dispersion of atmospheric pollution, MIUU, UAM). Four years Design, Construction and Optimization of the operation of a state of the art compact system for drinkable water and internal air purification-sterilization with ozone technology KFT-X88-C (in cooperation with a Shanghai based, Chinese company, specialized in ozone applications www.cftcn.com). The compact machine is certified according to European Union Certificates (CE, RoHS & ISO 9001/2000).

Eleven years Environmental Projects Director, in Construction Company INTRAKAT S.A , 2002-2013, http://www.intrakat.gr/en/. Expert of Greek Court Appraisals in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering (Water, Wastewater and Municipal Solid Waste Treatment (emphasis in Waste to Energy, Marine Lubricants and Oils), since 2000. (Special Greek appraisement/expertise for the operation of dewatering and mechanical thickening and further treatment of produced sludge in the largest in Europe Waste Water Treatment Plant of Psittaleia, Piraeus, Greece, appointed by Greek Court 2013).
