After 40 years as a practitioner Bill was invited to develop a supply chain engineering course for NYU. His passion is teaching the basics of practical supply chains. It boils down to three things: A network container, product contents, balancing demand and supply. This is analogous to the shape of your coffee cup, the coffee blend you drink, and matching the coffee temperature with your desire to drink it. Bill’s writings and lectures have educated more than 500 students at NYU and Rutgers.
Biography
The industrial career for William T. Walker, CFPIM, CIRM, CSCP, CLTD started with a large company the Power Products Division of Hewlett-Packard which became a division of Agilent Technologies, then with the Fire Products Division of Siemens Building Technologies, and finally with a small company StarTrak Information Technologies, LLC. Bill’s practitioner experience includes years of time in each role as a Design Engineer, Production Engineer, Manufacturing Section Manager, Production and Inventory Control Manager, Software Project Manager, Hardware Engineering Section Manager, Purchasing Manager, Materials Manager, Supply Chain Architect, and Director of Supply Chain Management. Over the years, he participated on large corporate teams to install Oracle and SAP ERP systems. And Bill’s travels led to his exposure to diverse cultures around the world in 29 countries on five continents.From 1989 through 1998, while working full time, Bill served at the APICS society level as a volunteer professional association executive. This included years as the APICS Vice President of Region 2 over the membership education chapters in New York and New Jersey, years as the APICS Vice President of Education for Specific Industry Groups, and years as Treasurer and then President of the APICS Education and Research Foundation awarding small grants for supply chain management education research. Later Bill became part of a team of eight volunteer subject matter experts that published the first APICS supply chain education in 2000.
In 1997, Bill was invited to add a chapter on logistics to the Third Edition of the Production and Inventory Control Handbook edited by Jim Greene. And, he was honored by The Logistics and e-Supply Chain Forum as one of “The Top 20 Logistics Executives of 2000” for his education contributions. In 2003, Bill was invited by Kevin McCormack and Bill Johnson to write a chapter on supply chain networks for their book Supply Chain Networks and Business Process Orientation published with CRC Press. This ultimately led to the writing of his own books, Supply Chain Architecture and Supply Chain Construction, published with CRC Press.
