Nancy Beiman
I am a graduate of the Character Animation Program at the California Institute of the Arts and have done everything in animation from concept to production, with emphasis on story, design, and character animation. I worked as a supervising animator in America, Europe, and Australian studios and now teach full time at Sheridan college while producing my own independent films and, of course, writing books.

Biography
NANCY BEIMAN has worked as a supervising animator, director, character designer, and storyboard artist for studios in five countries including: Walt Disney Feature and Television Animation, Amblin’ (Now DreamWorks), Warner Brothers Animation, and her own studio. She has worked in feature film, television specials, commercials, and new media. Nancy has illustrated several books and written articles on animation and cartooning for magazine and online publications. She is a graduate of the CHARACTER ANIMATION PROGRAM at the California Institute of the Arts and received her MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology.Her first book, PREPARE TO BOARD! is the standard text on feature and short film animation storyboarding. Her second book ANIMATED PERFORMANCE is the only book on acting for animation written by a professional animator. produced her own independent film, YOUR FEETS TOO BIG, in 1983 and in 2016 returned to independent film production—more about that later! She has taught second year storyboard and mentored students in Sheridan College’s BA Animation program since 2008 and before that taught at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

My paper analyzes how and why Chaplin's art set the tone for American animation for a century to come and how the man and his work influenced major studios' stories and characters.
