Biography

Janis Allen has been an HR Manager for a major textile manufacturer, a performance consultant, and vice president of operations for Aubrey Daniels International. She has owned Performance Leadership Consulting since 1991. She created the book Performance Teams, a process which combined Quality Circles with Performance Management for Xerox Refurbishing and Xerox Distribution. Some of her clients: BMW Manufacturing, 3M, Philadelphia Electric, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Wisconsin Gas, International Paper, and New York Department of Motor Vehicles. Janis was a keynote speaker for the National Association for Employee Recognition. Her earlier book on recognition, I Saw What You Did and I Know Who You Are, was used by Delta Airlines. She and her husband and co-author Michael McCarthy wrote You Made My Day: Creating Co-worker Recognition and Relationships and How to Engage, Involve, and Motivate Employees. Janis and Mike live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

    Since 1980, Janis has helped organizations improve performance with applied behavior techniques, including measurement, feedback, and positive reinforcement. Her specialty is helping managers and supervisors create engagement by shop floor, administrative, and professional (non-supervisory) employees.

Personal Interests

    When she's not hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, Janis likes to write. She collected stories from 17 World War II veterans and published the book, "World War II Veterans of Western North Carolina." Its proceeds all go to benefit the Western North Carolina Military History Museum.
