Bernard Hamrock
Bernard Hamrock is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio State University. He previously spent 18 years as a research consultant at NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio (now John Glenn Center). He received his Ph.D and Doctor of Engineering degrees from the University of Leeds, England and has taught at the Technical University of Denmark.
Biography
Bernard Hamrock joined the staff of The Ohio State University as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in September 1985. Prior to that he spent 18 years as a research consultant in the Tribology Branch of the NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. (Now John Glenn Center) He has done research at the University of Lulea, Sweden, and taught at the Technical University of Denmark. His research resulted in a book with Duncan Dowson entitled "Ball Bearing Lubrication" published in 1981 by Wiley Interscience, three separate chapters for handbooks, and over 105 archival publications. A second book, "Fundamentals of FluidFilm Lubrication" was published in 1991 by NASA. A revised and expanded edition of that book was published by McGraw Hill in 1993. A third book, "Fundamentals of Machine Elements", was published by McGraw-Hill in 1999.His awards include the 1976 Melville Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Best Paper of the Year for 1975 and 1976 from the Lubrication Division of ASME, the NASA Lewis Research Center Best Paper of the Year (1977) and the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal in 1984.

Primary areas of research have been elastohydrodynamic lubrication as related to the lubrication of rolling-element bearings and gears, and hydrodynamic lubrication as related to fluid film journal and thrust bearings, seals, and fluid dampers.
