Biography

Dr. Sharath Sriram is a Senior Research Fellow and joint leader of the Functional Materials and Microsystems Research Group at RMIT University. His expertise includes the synthesis and characterisation of functional thin films, underpinned by skills in microelectronic fabrication techniques. He received his Ph.D. from RMIT University in 2009 for work on synthesis and characterisation of high performance and CMOS-compatible piezoelectric thin films. This included the development of the first techniques for quantitative determination of piezoelectric response coefficients of thin films utilising in situ nanoindentation and atomic force microscopy. These research outcomes were recognised by the 2010 Gold Medal for Excellence in Research by the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering and the 2012 NMI Prize from the National Measurement Institute. He is also a recipient of a 2012 Victoria Fellowship.
Dr. Sriram has published over 80 peer-reviewed publications, including articles in leading nanoscience journals including Journal of the American Chemical Society, ACS Nano, Advanced Functional Materials, and Nanoscale and has received over A$1.4 million in research and infrastructure funding over the last 3 years. He is a current recipient of the Australian Research Council Post-Doctoral Fellowship for the period 2011-2014, with a research focus on micro-devices for chemical sensing and dynamic manipulation of surface nanostructures utilising in situ techniques with electrical stimuli.
