Madhu Bhaskaran
Dr. Madhu Bhaskaran is a Senior Research Fellow and joint leader of the Functional Materials and Microsystems Research Group at RMIT University.
Biography
Dr. Madhu Bhaskaran received her Ph.D. from RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia in 2009 following B.E. and M.Eng. degrees in 2004 and 2005, respectively. She is currently a Senior Research Fellow and joint leader of the Functional Materials and Microsystems Research Group at RMIT University. She is an expert on silicon-based fabrication techniques and thin film patterning for the development of micro-devices. This is in addition to her expertise in thin film characterisation using a variety of spectroscopy, microscopy, and diffraction techniques. This combination of microfabrication and materials science expertise has enabled her to demonstrate novel applications of functional materials. She has published 80 peer-reviewed publications, including about 50 journal articles in the last 5 years. She is a recipient of the highly competitive Australian Research Council Post-Doctoral Fellowship 2010-2013 for research on energy harvesting from piezoelectric thin films. In 2011, she received worldwide media coverage, including on national television and international radio, for her use of in situ nanoindentation in characterising the nanoscale piezoelectric energy generation properties of thin films.
