Jun Li
Dr. Jun Li has been working on integrating nanomaterials, particularly carbon nanotubes and semiconductor nanowires, into functional devices including on-chip interconnects, thermal interface materials, solar cells, supercapacitors, Lithium-ion batteries, nanoelectrode array based ultrasensitive biosensors, electrical neural interface, and nanodielectrophoretic chips for capture and detection of bacterial and viral particles.
Biography
Dr. Jun Li has been engaged in research on nanosciences and nanotechnology through his career with Molecular Imaging Co. (1997-1998), the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (Singapore, 1998-2000), NASA Ames Research Center (2000-2007), and Kansas State University (2007 – present). He has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers/book chapters and is a co-inventor of 15 patent applications. His research work in nanotechnology has been highlighted in over 40 public news reports. He received the first annual Nano50 Award by NASA Tech Briefs under Innovator category in 2005. Dr. Li has been serving as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology since 2007.Education

Dr. Jun Li's research has been focused on nanomaterials growth (CVD, PECVD, VLS, electrodeposition, and hydrothermal synthesis), materials characterization (structural, electrical, electrochemical, optical, and thermal properties), micro- and nano- fabrication, surface and interface modification, chemical/biological sensor development, electrochemistry, energy conversion and storage, and device integration. He is internationally recognized for his leading contributions on integrating novel physical, chemical, mechanical, electrical, and optical properties of nanomaterials (particularly vertically aligned carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, and semiconductor nanowires) into innovative devices and technologies for applications in the areas of energy (solar cells and electrical energy storage devices), biomedicine (biosensors and diagnostic devices), and environmental monitoring/protection (pathogen detection and biodegradable nanocomposites). His scholastic accomplishments covering from frontier research to technology transfer, with highly visible innovations in nanostructured chemical/biological sensors, implantable neural devices, solid-state nanoelectronics (transistors, interconnects, thermal interface, and packaging technologies), and energy conversion and storage. He has demonstrated strong technical leadership and established cross-disciplinary collaboration in large team projects funded by NASA, NIH, NSF, and Department of Homeland Security. He has very diverse education, research and development experience in broad environments including academia, industry, and government labs.
