Carl Schaschke


A chemical engineer, he worked in the nuclear reprocessing industry before beginning an academic career. More recently, he was Head of Chemical & Process Engineering at Strathclyde University and is currently Head of Science, Engineering and Technology at Abertay University. He has also worked at the Fawley oil refinery for BBC TV’s Tomorrow’s World. A UK representative of the EFCE on High Pressure Technology, he is also a Fellow of IChemE. He is married with two daughters.

Biography

Professor Carl Schaschke is Head of School of Science, Engineering and Technology at Abertay University in Dundee. A chemical engineer, he completed his PhD at Strathclyde in biochemical engineering having previously worked for BNFL at the nuclear reprocessing plant at Sellafield, Cumbria. His academic career began first at Napier University before moving to Strathclyde in Glasgow where he was Head of the Department of Chemical & Process Engineering at the University of Strathclyde from 2006 to 2014. He has been a recipient of both an Esso Engineering Teaching Fellowship and a Media Fellowship with secondments to the Fawley refinery and BBC TV’s Tomorrow’s World. His teaching and research interests include chemical engineering applications under extreme conditions. He is a UK representative of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering Working Party on High Pressure Technology. He is a Fellow of IChemE and the Higher Education Academy, and is married with two daughters, Emily and Rebecca.
