Biography

Sophia Rabe-Hesketh is a Professor at the Graduate School of Education and a member of the Interdepartmental Group in Biostatistics, both at the University of California, Berkeley. She also has a part-time position as Chair and Professor of Social Statistics at the Department of Quantitative Social Science, Institute of Education, University of London. She was previously a Reader in Statistics at the Department of Biostatistics and Computing at the Institute of Psychiatry in London. Sophia is an applied statistician in the areas of social statistics, biostatistics and psychometrics. Her research interests include multilevel and latent variable modelling. Over the last few years she has been developing a general modeling framework and software to estimate the models (see http://www.gllamm.org). She is also involved in many collaborative projects in education, psychology, and medicine. Sophia has 165 publications, including 6 authored books and over 90 peer-reviewed articles in over 50 different journals. Over 30,000 copies of her books have been sold. The best-sellers are "Generalized Latent Variable Modeling" (with Skrondal, 2004), "Multilevel and Longitudinal Modeling Using Stata" (with Skrondal, 2008), and "Handbook of Statistical Analyses Using Stata" (with Everitt, 2007).
