Linda Pagli

full professor
University of Pisa

I am professor of computer science at the Department of Informatics at the University of Pisa, Italy, and I teach courses on algorithms. My research interests are in the bases of computation, and in design and analysis of sequential parallel and distributed algorithms. I have pursued intense activities in higher education in favor of developing countries.

Biography

I studied computer science many years ago when the computers were as big as buildings and the interface was through punched cards. After graduation I could do every job I wanted but I decided to stay at the university because I loved to do research. I started with a fellowship, then I became researcher and, after some years professor, first at the University of Salerno, then back in Pisa.

Education

Laurea in Scienze dell'Informazione, Università di Pisa 1973

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

Bases of computation, and design and analysis of sequential parallel and distributed algorithms.

Personal Interests

I enjoy to collect and discover unusual aspects of computer science and hidden relations among algorithms, literature, art and everyday life. This makes the subject more lively and attractive.
I travelled a lot for work in poor and rich countries, students are fond of  computers in any country and want to know and have fun with them.
I love literature, cinema, modern art and sports.
