This book continues where DOE Simplified leaves off in Chapter 8 with an introduction to "Response Surface Methods [RSM] for Optimization." It presents this advanced tool for design of experiments (DOE) in a way that anyone with a minimum of technical training can understand and appreciate. Unlike any other book of its kind, RSM Simplified keeps formulas to a minimum—making liberal use of figures, charts, graphs and checklists. It also offers many relevant examples, amusing and fun do-it-yourself exercises.

Preface. Chapter 1: Introduction to the Beauty of Response Surface Methods. Chapter 2: Lessons to Learn from Happenstance Regression. Chapter 3: Factorials to set the stage for more glamorous RSM Designs. Chapter 4: Central Composite Design: Stars Added-RSM Show Begins. Chapter 5: Three-Level Designs. Chapter 6: Finding your sweet spot for multiple responses. Chapter 7: Computer-generated optimal designs. Chapter 8: Everything you should know about CCDs (but dare not ask!). Chapter 9: RSM for Six Sigma. Chapter 10: Other Applications for RSM. Chapter 11: Applying RSM to Mixtures. Glossary. References. About the authors. Index.

    Biography

Mark Anderson is a principal and general manager of Stat-Ease, Inc. Prior to joining the firm, he spearheaded an award-winning quality improvement program for an international manufacturer, generating millions of dollars in profit. Mark offers a diverse array of experience in process development, quality assurance, marketing, purchasing, and general management. Mark is also co-author of: DOE Simplified: Practical Tools for Effective Experimentation and RSM Simplified: Optimizing Processes Using Response Surface Methods for Design of Experiments, and has published numerous articles on design of experiments (DOE). He is also a guest lecturer at the University of MN Chemical Engineering & Materials Science department and the Ohio State University Fisher College of Business.

"RSM Simplified is a thorough but succinct overview of response surface methods. It equips the typical engineer or industrial scientist with all that he will need to start using these powerful optimization techniques..."

-John D. Guerin, Ph.D., President, Turning Points Management Consulting, Inc.

"Anderson and Whitcomb have done it again. The perfect companion to their DOE Simplified, RSM Simplified leads the practitioner through the potentially dry and complicated subject of response surface methodology with ease. There are plenty of real-world examples and generous illustrations to detail current best practice in RSM. What truly sets their book apart, however, is the relaxed style and the liberal inclusion of anecdotes and historical perspectives which, without compromises in statistical rigor, gives the work a light, even entertaining quality. I highly recommend this book for Six Sigma and Design for Six Sigma Black Belts - indeed anyone - with responsibilities for modeling and optimizing processes. "

-Thomas A. Scripps, Scripps & Associates, PC

"This book is perfect introductory material for quality and Six Sigma professionals who need to learn the tools for identifying critical process parameters and optimizing their processes."

-Shin Ta Liu, Lynx Systems, San Diego, CA (in Quality Progress magazine)
