Summary

The vesicle theory of protein secretion is meant to explain the manner by which proteins - once generated - are encapsulated, transported, and secreted by cells. The theory depends upon a balance between the rate at which proteins are synthesized and secreted. This book explains the author's findings, which were critical of the theory, and documents a story of controversy, data interpretation, and acrimony. His personal narrative of the resistence to his views and his experiences with disagreements illustrates that, despite declarations to the contray, scientists resist change just as agressively as non-scientists.
