Since the publication of the second edition of this volume, 3D echocardiography has penetrated the clinical arena and become an indispensable tool for patient care. The previous edition, which was highly commended at the British Medical Book Awards, has been updated with recent publications and improved images. This third edition has added important new topics such as 3D Printing, Surgical and Transcatheter Management, Artificial Valves, and Infective Endocarditis.

The book begins by describing the principles of 3D echocardiography, then proceeds to discuss its application to the imaging of

    • Left and Right Ventricle, Stress Echocardiography

    • Left Atrium, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

    • Mitral Regurgitation with Surgical and Nonsurgical Procedures

    • Mitral Stenosis and Percutaneous Mitral Valvuloplasty

    • Aortic Stenosis with TAVI / TAVR

    • Aortic and Tricuspid Regurgitation

    • Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Aorta

    • Speckle Tracking, Cardiac Masses, Atrial Fibrillation

    KEY FEATURES

    • In-depth clinical experiences of the use of 3D/2D echo by world experts
    • Latest findings to demonstrate clinical values of 3D over 2D echo
    • One-click view of 263 innovative videos and 352 high-resolution 3D/2D color images in a supplemental eBook.

    Biography

Dr. Takahiro Shiota is Professor of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA School of Medicine. He is a pioneer in 3D echocardiography, and published the first book on this topic in 2007 while he was Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Shiota published a unique 3D echo book of case presentations. He is the editor of 3D Echocardiography, second edition, which was highly commended at the 2014 British Medical Book Awards. Dr. Shiota regularly contributes articles on how to improve diagnostic accuracy. He has published many original papers in premier journals, on the clinical value and use of 3D echo for surgery and trans-catheter procedures.

This expanded third addition addresses the updated aspects of 3D echocardiography, focusing on its clinical value. It provides detailed and comprehensive information on the complex nature of 3D echocardiography, focusing on the diagnostic aspects of valvular disorders and structural disorders, as well as special features such as speckle tracking and 3D printing. The use of detailed graphics, charts, and graphs provides excellent visual aids to guide physicians in understanding those objectives. From diagnosis to treatment of a variety of clinical etiologies, it builds a framework for the understanding of complex concepts. The use of numerous examples with arrows and detailed explanations helps to conceptualize this sophisticated topic. The use of other figures, charts, and graphics significantly help the readers solidify their understanding of the text.  Given the complexity of the book and its subject manner, this is a valuable resource for cardiology fellows in training, cardiologists, and imaging specialists,. The quality of the examples and content of the book are excellent and provide a framework to help understand 3D echocardiography.
