This interdisciplinary text presents the underlying chemistry, physics, and materials science that explain the synthesis, preparation, characterization, and application of nanomaterials. It assumes some background in chemistry and physics common to all undergraduate engineering and physical science students in their second year of college. While the book tends to emphasize physical aspects of materials, there is some coverage of the interface of materials with the life sciences. In all cases, the author gives quantitative examples, so that the effect of the nanoscale on various properties is seen in numerical terms.
