Author Bio(s)

Doug Dulin is Senior Director for the Mark A. Watson Center for Operations Excellence at Akron Children’s Hospital. Doug is a proven leader with extensive experience transforming manufacturing and healthcare organizations utilizing Lean fundamentals based upon the Toyota Production System. Throughout his career, Doug, has held such positions as Director Lean Six Sigma, Business Unit Manager, Plant Manager, lean Site Leader and Lean Master. He earned his Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt Certification from Honeywell International. Earlier in his career, he learned the Toyota Production System from Aoyama Seisakusho, a Tier One Supplier to Toyota Motor Manufacturing. Productivity Press, an imprint of CRC Press, will be publishing his first book, Implementing a Balanced Lean Operating System in a Healthcare Organization, in the winter of 2013.

Tonya Vinas is a business-to-business communications writer, editor and project manager who specializes in lean continuous improvement topics. She is the former Managing Editor of Industry Week magazine and before that served as the magazine’s first New Media Editor. She was integral in the launch of the IndustryWeek.com website in 1997. She also is former editor of the online newsletter Lean Accounting News and TWI News. Her writing has been published by the Lean Enterprise Institute, the Association for Manufacturing Excellence, Op/EX/The Magazine of TBM Consulting Group, the National Association of Manufacturers and the Italian Trade Commission. She served as editor of the Shingo-prize winning book Building a Lean Fulfillment Stream by Robert Martichenko and Kevin von Grabe and the subsequently published People: A Leader’s Day-to-Day Guide to Building, Managing and Sustaining Lean Organizations, written by Robert Martichenko, Steve Gran, Walt Miller and Roger Pearce.
