Edited by Furht (Florida Atlantic Univ.), a prolific researcher and writer, this encyclopedia offers 173 articles, selected by an editorial board, which cover current technologies and perspectives along with some future trends. The articles are arranged alphabetically by title. Most are about 6 pages, but they range in length from 3 to 18 pages. They are well written and edited, and provide readers with a state-of-the-art report. Subject coverage includes but is not limited to 3G and 4G systems, ad hoc networks, applications, IEEE 802.11 WLAN, multimedia, quality of services, security, and wireless sensor networks. Readers may access this three-volume set via the table of contents, an abbreviated table of contents in the front cover, and the subject index; all are available in each of the volumes. A topical table of contents ties together similar articles that may be distributed throughout the set due to the alphabetical arrangement. Numerous illustrations and tables help reinforce the text. This encyclopedia is an excellent resource for both basic and advanced concepts … will be useful for libraries that support programs in computer science and engineering, or electrical engineering—especially those that focus on wireless and mobile communications.
