Jeff W. Murray

Biography

I was born in Birkenhead, England, which is on the opposite side of the River Mersey from the city of Liverpool. Further down the Mersey, a seaside town called New Brighton was where I nurtured my love of computer games in the 1970's and 80's in a collection of amusement arcades scattered along the promenade. Most kids wanted to meet their cartoon heroes but as I grew up, my idols were Matthew Smith creator of Manic Miner and Malcolm Evans creator of 3d Monster Maze!

In the past, I’ve worked with some of the worlds largest brands – Microsoft, Sony, Real Arcade, Hasbro, Lionsgate – as a Programmer, Game Designer and Game Director. Before going full-time indie, I worked for IBM Research in virtual reality. In fact, I’m probably out there, lost in VR, as you read this.

As someone who was in the arcades playing video games during the 1980s, you could say I like ‘retro-gaming’ although it doesn’t feel very retro if you were there the first time!
