Professor of Mathematics
Wheaton College

Though American by birth, I grew up in Europe, finishing my high school in France by earning a Baccalaureat C. I attended Brown University for undergraduate and Northeastern University for my doctoral studies, both in mathematics. Since then I have taught mathematics at the undergraduate level in the US. I read widely in mathematics but am particularly interested in commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and applications of these areas.

Biography

American by birth, I grew up in Italy and in France, where I studied at the Lycee International in Saint-Germain-en-Laye from 5th grade through high school.  There I earned both an American high school degree and a French Baccalaureat C.  The solid foundation in mathematics and science that a Bac C offers served me well through my undergraduate degree in mathematics at Brown University.  After a three-year gap, I returned to graduate school and completed my PhD at Northeastern University under Jerzy Weyman.

I first taught at Eastern Nazarene College in Boston, and have been at Wheaton College since 2008.  My family and I enjoy traveling as opportunity allows.  In 2013, we spent my sabbatical semester in Nairobi, Kenya, teaching, writing, and serving at Africa Nazarene University.

I enjoy reading, research, and teaching in many areas of pure mathematics but maintain specific interests in commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, differential geometry, cryptography and discrete dynamical systems.  Since I am primarily involved in undergraduate teaching, my writing tends to focus on textbooks for advanced courses that I have taught.  Furthermore, I particularly care about offering undergraduate students research experiences.
