Nancy E. Carpenter
I am a synthetic organometallic chemist by training and a liberal arts educator at heart. I teach courses in organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, synthesis, the chemistry of sustainable energy and the intersection of art and science.
Subjects: Chemistry
Biography
My career as a chemist began at Alberto-Culver as a laboratory technician in personal care products R & D. From there I moved into aerosol products R & D and, eventually, to graduate school where I worked under Dr. Anthony G.M. Barrett on novel applications of iron vinylidene complexes in synthesis. After a post-doctoral appointment with Dr. Larry Overman during which I helped develop an asymmetric variant of the Heck reaction I accepted a position at the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM). UMM is a small, public, liberal arts residential undergraduate campus of the University of Minnesota where I have enjoyed teaching and carrying out research with undergraduates for over twenty years.Education
