Principal Investigator and Scientific Director of two joint government/industry funded Pan Canadian Strategic Research networks, involving Canadian Universities, Government Institutes, Electric Utilities and Private Sector in Interdisciplinary Research into Smart Grid & Cyber Security.

Biography

Dr. Hassan Farhangi (born in Tehran, Iran) is known for his work in the development of Canada's first Smart Microgrid on the campus of British Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby, BC, Canada.

Farhangi holds a PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). His career spans over 30 years in private & public sector teaching, research and product development. He was a founding faculty of the Technical University of British Columbia, where as Dean and Professor of Information Technology, he developed an academic workflow for the development and delivery of interdisciplinary curricula, and led the development and delivery of Information Technology component of TechBC's TechOne undergraduate program.

Currently, Farhangi is the Director for Smart Grid Research at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and Adjunct Professor at the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University  in Vancouver, Canada.

Farhangi is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEG), and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
