Allan Coletta

Biography

Allan R Coletta is a chemical engineer with an extensive background in manufacturing operations, supply chain and engineering, gained while working in the chemical process and healthcare diagnostics industries.   His Lean experience started while serving as Site Manager for ICI Uniqema’s largest Specialty Chemicals plant in North America and continued to expand is his role as Senior Director of Engineering for Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics.  

His passion for manufacturing and engaging people in continuous improvement continues to grow through personal application of Lean principles.  During his tenure at Siemens Allan learned about the Lean 3P process, a method of developing both a product and the process that will manufacture it concurrently, utilizing the people who will interact with it to determine the design attributes.  This event-driven, collaborative process enables rapid learning through the development of alternatives, with application of try-storming techniques to quickly evaluate them.  Lean 3P typically delivers breakthrough results.  

Through many projects Allan and his team developed significant understanding of Lean 3P, aided by input from others deeply experienced in Lean and 3P including Ken Rolfes, Maria Elena Stopher, Ron Mascitelli, Drew Locher and Andy Johnson.  Allan's focused application of 3P methods culminated in his recently published book “The Lean 3P Advantage – A Practitioners Guide to the Production, Preparation Process“ (2012 CRC Press).

Allan, his wife Rosemary and daughter Alexandra enjoy hiking, fishing, boating and kayaking and are active in church activities.  They especially enjoy their vacations in New Brunswick, Canada, where nature’s beauty and many wonderful people continue to foster memorable experiences.

Personal Interests

Allan serves on the Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership’s Fiduciary and Advisory Boards, and is a member of the Delaware Business Mentoring Alliance.  He is also a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME).
