Qurban A Memon has authored over eighty publications in his academic career. He has executed research grants and development projects in the area of microcontroller based systems; and networks. His research interests include intelligent systems and networks.

Biography

Qurban A Memon has contributed at levels of teaching, research, and community service in the area of electrical and computer engineering. He has authored/co-authored eighty one publications over a period of about sixteen years of his academic career. Additionally, two book chapters: “Intelligent Network System for Process Control: Applications, Challenges, Approaches” in a book titled “Robotics, Automation and Control", ISBN 978-953-7619-39-8, 2009; and “RFID for Smarter Healthcare Collaborative Network,” in book titled “Building Next-Generation Converged Networks: Theory and Practice”, CRC Press, 2012, have been published. He also have edited a book titled ‘Distributed Network Intelligence, Security and Applications”, published by CRC press, 2013. Recently, his research project undertaken by UAE-U students won CURA-2009 award. During the academic years, he has served as a teacher, team member and a researcher at various institutions. For last eight consecutive years, his research contributions have been rated as excellent at UAE University, Al-Ain. He has executed research grants and development projects in the area of microcontroller based systems; and networks. He has served as a reviewer of many international journals and conferences; and session chair at various conferences. His research interests include intelligent systems and networks.
Twelve times during academic career, his teaching has been rated as excellent. Two times he was awarded “Best Graduate Teaching Assistant Award” at University of Central Florida, Orlando USA. He has served as Associate Professor for BSc and MSc (Computing) Program of University of Huddersfield, UK, and currently as Associate Professor for digital systems focus of electrical engineering program of UAE University, Al-Ain.
Qurban has served as a leader and a member of various committees within units of academic community. The service contribution includes Member, University Core Curriculum Committee, Head of EE Computer Focus group, Secretary EE Council, Head of Research Committee of EE Department; EE Text book coordinator; Member of EE Graduate Program Committee, Member of Research committee at College of Engineering; Member of Curriculum Committee; Industrial advisor of students, Advising registered students; Project supervision, Editorial board member and Reviewer for various relevant professional journals and conferences, Session chair at professional conferences etc. He takes interest in motivating students for participating and presenting research in student conferences. His profile is multidisciplinary in engineering and sciences in terms of curriculum and systems development; teamwork at institutional level; participation at various levels in international conferences and forums. His service has been rated as excellent three times.
Qurban has an industrial experience of five years (1997-1991) working as an engineer to install, test and commission telecom and embedded systems equipment purchased from Ericsson (and ABB Oslo, Norway). For this purpose, he received six months practical training at manufacturer’s facilities at Oslo, Norway.
Qurban received Ph.D. (1996) in electrical and computer engineering from University of Central Florida, US, and M.S. (1993) from University of Gainesville, Florida US.
